If you’re a gamer, you’re probably on
Steam. It’s a hobby that can get expensive, so we found 19 ways to get free
Steam gift cards.
Probably Not
This Much, But Still
One gamer has a Steam collection worth more than $83,000. He
didn’t pay out of pocket for his collection thankfully, but it shows that it’s
possible to spend thousands of dollars, even tens of thousands of dollars on
Steam.
At Frugal For Less, we think playing
video games can be a frugal pastime. Plenty of hobbies are more expensive,
golf, skiing, photography to name a few.
When I was a kid, playing video games
was a rather solitary hobby. You either did it by yourself or with one other
player. But Steam is a huge community.
You can meet people in-game, on various
forums, and in dedicated communities. So not only is Steam a relatively
inexpensive hobby, it can be an excellent way to make friends or at least
connect with people who have similar interests to you.
But why not make your Steam hobby even more frugal by getting free Steam gift
cards?

Gift Cards Directly
The sites listed below all offer Steam
gift cards directly. You’ll see why this is a separate section later.
1. Swagbucks
Swagbucks is one of the better-known rewards
sites. When you join the site, you
can earn points for doing things you probably already
do like searching the internet, playing games, (well, given that you’re
reading this, we know you play
games!) watching videos, and shopping online.
There are several other ways to earn
too including taking surveys, redeeming Promo Codes, and participating in a
Daily Poll. You’ll earn points for every completed activity which you
can cash out for Steam gift cards which start at $10.
2.
Raise
Do you have gift cards from a retailer or a restaurant that you
don’t frequent? Why not exchange them for a gift card you do want? Raise is
a site where you can buy, sell, and exchange gift cards, including Steam gift
cards.
If you’re looking to buy Steam gift cards, be sure to check out
Raise and Cardpool, another gift card buying and selling
site. Both sell gift cards at a discount. Why pay full price?
3. Points
Prizes
Points Prizes offers several ways to earn points. Watch video ads, answer
surveys, take a daily poll, and refer other people to join the site too. The
payout threshold is $20, and Steam gift cards are one of the
redemption options.
4. Points2Shop
Points2Shop is another site with
multiple ways to earn points. Users can take surveys, watch videos, play games,
and download Apps. Points can be redeemed for Steam gift cards in denominations
of $20, $50, and $100.
5. InstaGC
Not only can you earn points toward free Steam gift cards at InstaGC through tasks like taking surveys and
watching videos but they sometimes have special Steam offers, and other bonus
offers posted on their Facebook page so be sure to follow them there.
InstaGC has Steam gift cards starting
at just $5.
6. FreeMyApps
FreeMyApps rewards users for downloading free Apps
onto their mobile devices. The Apps include games so that should be right up
everyone reading this’s alley!
Inside the App, you can see the full
list of Apps available for free download, the number of points each is worth
and any requirements you have to meet to collect the points.
Steam gift cards start at $5.
7.
AppTrailers
Did you know that some new Apps have
trailers, just like new movies? It was news to me until I started researching
this article and come across AppTrailers. Users can earn points for watching
App trailers and additional points for downloading and using the Apps.
The trailers aren’t long; most are only
about 30 seconds long. You can earn points by doing other tasks too. You can
watch videos about things like celebrity gossip, life hacks, and comedy, play
games, and answer trivia questions.
Steam gift cards start at $5.
And That’s
About It!
There are more than 125 million active Steam accounts. Actually, there
are probably even more than that because that number is the latest I could find
and it’s from 2015. So I was pretty surprised that I was able to find so few sites
that offer Steam gift cards as one of the cash out options.
But when there’s a will, there’s a way,
so we have to find some other, less direct ways to get free Steam gift cards.
Get Free Stream
Gift Cards Indirectly
These sites allow users to earn gift
cards from a variety of retailers and some of them offer credit card company
branded pre-paid debit cards.
Some of them also have an option to
cash out for actual cash, usually deposited into your PayPal account.
You can earn gift cards from these
sites and exchange them for Steam gift cards at Raise, and you can use the
debit cards or cash to purchase games directly through Steam.
These are all sites that Frugal For
Less has reviewed in the past so you can count on them as legitimate sources
for earning gift cards and cash.
Another good tip is to Google “Reddit
Steam Sale” from time to time. There are several sub-Reddits dedicated to
gaming and the posters in them keep a close eye out for sales so wait for one
before you buy new games.
8. Survey
Junkie
Survey Junkie is probably the most popular survey
site and for a good reason. In a very crowded field, it’s one of the best
survey sites out there. You can see how long each survey will take and how much
each one is worth. The site regularly adds new surveys, offers gift cards from
lots of retailers, and has a cash option via PayPal.
9. SendEarnings
SendEarnings is a great “get paid to” site because
there are several ways to earn. Don’t like taking surveys?
You can peruse the Latest Offers section and earn money when you
do things like become a Lyft driver (upon your first paid fare, SendEarnings
will pay you $130!), sign up for a Gobble
meal kit delivery subscription (SendEarnings will pay you $16),
and sign up for a free Paribus account (you’ll earn $2.50).
Those are among the best ways to earn,
but there are several more. The minimum to cash out is $30. There are
three ways to get paid. You can choose an eGift card from merchants like
Amazon, Walmart, and Target, a prepaid Visa debit card or a paper check.
Of all the similar sites I have reviewed and all of the ones I
use based on someone else’s review, SendEarnings is my favorite so
be sure to check it out even if you’re skeptical of “get paid to” sites.
10. Pinecone Research
Pinecone Research is a survey site, and it’s one
of our favorites because nearly all of the surveys offered pay a flat fee
of $3 each.
A lot of the “get paid to” sites use a
point system where each point is worth a fraction of a cent or a few cents, and
it can be hard to figure out it spending time there is a good use of your time
or if you’ll have to take eleventy million surveys to ever hit the minimum
threshold to cash out.
Pinecone is really up front, so, you
know exactly how much you’re earning.
There is no gift card option at
Pinecone Research, but you can get cash either via your PayPal account for the
old fashioned way, a paper check.
The minimum to cash out is really low,
just $3, so after completing a single survey, you can get paid! The payout
increments are $3, $5, and $15.
11. YouGov
A lot of people avoid earning money on survey sites because they
find it to be boring. And I suppose that’s true. Answering questions about what
kind of diapers you like best or your favorite brand of mouthwash isn’t particularly interesting.
If that’s why you’ve never tried out a survey site, YouGov might
be more to your liking. YouGov wants your opinion on things like politics and
current events, something pretty much everyone has strong opinions on!
You’ll earn points for each survey you
complete. Most can be completed in just a few minutes and are worth between 500
and 1000 points. You need 5,000 points to cash out, and you can be paid via
gift cards, pre-paid Visa debit cards or cash via PayPal.
12. Ibotta
Ibotta is a cash back shopping App. You can look
through the App and see a variety of cash back offers for things you would buy
in grocery stores, pharmacies, convenience stores, home, and electronics
stores.
When you see an offer you like, you
click it, and it will be attached to your Ibotta account.
When you purchase your selected items,
you upload a copy of the receipt to Ibotta and the cashback will be sent to
your account within 48 hours.
Once your balance is $20 or more ($20
might be considered a high cashout threshold on some sites, but because you’re
getting cash back at places you shop at regularly like grocery stores and
pharmacies, you can hit $20 in no time) you can transfer the money to your
PayPal or Venmo account and it will show up within 48 hours.
You can also choose to be paid with a
gift card to several retailers. Each has their own minimum, and you can see it
on the image of the cards. If you prefer a gift card, you’ll receive it via
email within 24 hours.
13. Shopkick
Shopkick is a receipt scanning App similar to
Ibotta but you can also earn Kicks (points) for doing things like just walking
into a store (no need to make a purchase), scanning barcodes on selected items
(again, no need to buy anything), and linking your credit and debit cards to
your account.
The minimum to cash out is 500 points
which will get you a $2 gift card to retailers including Amazon and Target.
14. Drop
If going through an App to decide what
you’re going to shop for and uploading receipts is just too much trouble for
you, you might pass on Ibotta and Shopkick. But you don’t have to pass on
earning gift cards you can sell or trade for Steam gift cards when you shop!
Drop doesn’t care what you buy or
what’s listed on your receipt. All you have to do is link your debit and credit
cards to your Drop account, and you’ll get points per dollar you spend when you
shop at a wide array of retailers including Amazon and Walmart.
The minimum number of points to cash
out is 5,000 which will net you a $5 gift card to places like Amazon and
Starbucks.
15. Shoptracker
This is probably the easiest way to earn money on this list,
maybe on the whole internet! If you shop online with Amazon, you can sign up. Shoptracker wants
data on your Amazon shopping habits, what you buy, how often you shop on the
site, and how much you spend there.
When you sign up, you’ll answer a few
questions related to your Amazon account and then download the App. Each month,
you’ll get $3 a month in the form of a pre-paid Visa debit card. That’s it, $36
a year for answering a few questions and downloading an App! You really can’t
beat that.
16. BillsBoard
BillsBoard is another really easy way
to earn a little extra money to buy Steam gift cards. It’s a lock screen App.
Install the App, and each time you unlock your phone, you’ll see an ad. You can
ignore the ad and go straight into your phone or watch it, either way; you get
paid!
You need at least 1,500 points to cash
out, and you can choose to be paid in cash via PayPal or via gift cards.
17. Slidejoy
Slidejoy works much the same way BillsBoard works;
you get paid each time you unlock your phone screen regardless of whether or
not you engage with the ad. You can also get paid for doing things like taking
surveys and playing games.
Slidejoy has a $2 minimum to cash out
for gift cards including pre-paid Visa debit cards and Amazon gift cards.
18. Gazelle
Gazelle is an online site that buys old
electronics including smartphones, iPods, and Apple TVs. On the site, you can
find the type of device you have to sell and answer some questions about the
condition it’s in. Gazelle even buys devices that no longer work. Once you’ve
provided this information, Gazelle will make you an offer.
If you accept it, you can send in your
device or take it to a local Kiosk. You can be paid via a paper check, PayPal,
or Amazon gift card.
I’ve sold a few things on Gazelle and
always had a smooth experience. If you have old devices lying around the house
unused, turn them into cash (for Steam gift cards!).
19.
Seated
How often do you make an online reservation before you go out to
dinner? Unless your answer is “every time,” you’re going to start doing it a
lot more after
you read this! Seated is an App you can use to make dinner reservations.
Open the App to find a participating
restaurant, make a reservation, show up for your reservation, meet the minimum
spend, and upload your receipt.
Seated will reward you with an Amazon,
Lyft, or Starbucks gift card for $10-$50! Currently Seated is available
in New York, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Philadelphia,
Washington D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Houston, Austin, Denver, Providence, and
Seattle.
They used to be in New Orleans which is
how I know about them but for some reason, they no longer operate here. I’m
still pouting about it.
Steamer Beware
You all know the old adage, “There is
no such thing as a free lunch.” All of the ways we’ve listed to get free Steam
gift cards are 100% legitimate.
But there are plenty of sites out there
claiming you can get free or really cheap Steam wallet codes through a code
generator. These sites are often scamming so avoid them.
What seems to be happening is that
hackers are breaking into Steam Wallets, stealing the credits and then selling
them at a discount. If you paid $0 for something and sold it for 80% of what it
would normally cost, you’re still making great money, so if you see something
that looks too good to be true, it probably is.
If you’re caught using stolen credits,
even if you aren’t the one who stole them and didn’t realize they were stolen
when you bought them, your account can be suspended. So instead of taking a
chance, stick to our 19 ways to get free Steam gift cards. Happy gaming!
